Grieg
Trio
‘Ernest Bloch’s Three Nocturnes from 1924
may be regarded as short musical fairy tales,
with melodic material inspired by Jewish folk
music. Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Trio is a
strikingly mature and personal work to have
been composed by a 17-year-old student.
Amongst its dreams, hopes and faith in the
future, there are already hints of the mature
composer’s musical signature,’ Anvik asserts.

grandiose. Romantic, mystical and
restlessly energetic.
These are some of the adjectives Grieg Trio
uses to describe its concert programme. The
trio has a remarkable ability to project moods,
and the nerve, playfulness and precision in
their playing has brought them glowing inter-
national renown. The works they perform in
Håkonshallen mean a lot to the ensemble.
‘Beethoven and Mendelssohn were the first
composers we performed together at the start
in 1987. The music of these two composers
has followed us ever since, and has been an
inexhaustable source of inspiration,’ says pia-
nist Vebjørn Anvik.
