Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Trio is a strikingly mature and personal work to have been composed by a 17-year-old student. Romantic, mystical and restlessly energetic. These are some of the adjectives Grieg Trio uses to describe its concert programme. The trio has a remarkable ability to project moods, and the nerve, playfulness and precision in their playing has brought them glowing inter- national renown. The works they perform in Håkonshallen mean a lot to the ensemble. ‘Beethoven and Mendelssohn were the first composers we performed together at the start in 1987. The music of these two composers has followed us ever since, and has been an inexhaustable source of inspiration,’ says pia- nist Vebjørn Anvik.
