The Brandenburg Concertos are six concerti grossi composed by Johann Sebastian Bach over a period of four years. During a visit to Berlin, Bach performed for Christian Ludwig, Margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt, who asked to receive some of his compositions. Three years later Bach sent the six concertos along with a letter requesting employment. It is not known whether Bach received a reply, but his job application has gone down in history as some of the most greatly loved music of the period. The members of Concerto Copenhagen are all elite musicians who are thoroughly familiar with early music and have a burning desire to express this music as vital, relevant and contemporary. Artistic director Lars Ulrik Mortensen, formerly professor in harpsichord in Munich, has received the Léonie Sonning Music Prize, recognized as Denmark's highest musical honour. 040 ‘Concerto Copenhagen’s Brandenburg Concertos contain all the heart can desire: grounding and striving for heaven, simplicity and subtlety, tranquillity and unpredictability … what riches!’ – KLASSISK Concerto Copenhagen Lars Ulrik Mortensen conductor, harpsichord JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH (1685–1750) Brandenburg Concertos No. 3 in G major, BWV 1048 No. 4 in G major, BWV 1049 No. 2 in F major, BWV 1047 No. 5 in D major, BWV 1050 No. 6 in B flat major, BWV 1051 No. 1 in F major, BWV 1046 Sponsored by DNV GL #FE STSPILLEN E19
