Concert violinist Berit Cardas believes it is
vital to learn classical music. Throughout the
current school year, she has introduced huge
classical works to ordinary fifth-graders at
four Bergen schools. The project culminates
with two concerts in Grieghallen, where during
their stage debut, 160 little stars will shine
alongside the big ones.

‘Most of all, I want the children to feel that
passion inside for the music we are going to
perform. To experience that bubbling feeling
rising in their chest and to indulge in the urge
to show off their discoveries’, Cardas says.
A year of nerves, of learning Russian and ot-
her foreign lyrics, and many, many hours of
rehearsing later, the 10-year-olds are ready.
Together with the Bergen Philharmonic
Orchestra and choir, the children will per-
form works such as Slave Chorus, Dies Irae,
Hallelujah Chorus and more.
