The Bergen International Festival welcomes them as a sinfonietta to perform music by Festival Composer Unsuk Chin and the acclaimed Nor- wegian composer-author Eivind Buene. In Unsuk Chin’s Double Bind?, performed by Peter Herresthal (violin), the composer focu- ses on the ‘playful jumble’ that she finds in the limits between the ‘real’ and the ‘artificial’, between acoustic instruments and electro- nics. Her third work in the concert, based on the books The Neverending Story by Michael Ende and Lewis Carroll’s Through the Loo- king-Glass, expresses the emotions described in the stories, ranging from bright to grotes- que. The soprano soloist is American Sara Herschkowitz, a daring, charming artist with a flexible, beautiful voice and huge presence. The Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra was nomi- nated for the Spellemann award (the Norwegi- an Grammy) in 2018 for its recording of Eivind Buene’s Violin Concerto. In Bergen the work will be performed in a new version for violin solo and full sinfonietta, with Peter Herresthal as the soloist. Conducting the Arctic Philharmonic is its American artistic director, Tim Weiss.
