Come into the inner pocket of sound – and bring a cushion! k Grammy-winning Theatre of Voices is one of the best vocal ensembles in the world. Their fearless repertoire oozes technical mastery, and the ensemble's interpretation of Karlheinz Stockhausen's Stimmung definitively demonstrates the range of sounds that their magical oral cavities have in store. Stockhausen composed Stimmung in 1968, just before the student uprisings in Paris and Berlin, Chairs are available by advance arrangement championing the cause of limitless art and – contact us at inner liberation. Stockhausen's interest in Asian shamanism and other meditational religion is audibly evident. The repeated 'magic names' are gods and goddesses from many cultures; the erotic verse was written by Stockhausen himself. Stockhausen influenced generations of musicians. The idea came to her on reading Paul Auster's novel Timbuktu, in which Mr Bones, a likeable mongrel, is the main character. On this occasion Alwynne Pritchard premieres eight of the works, all of which make substantial vocal and physical demands on the performer. With loud dog whines, esoteric tunes, divine tranquillity and hellish upheaval these feral, ritualistic minidramas explore the concepts of loneliness, divinity, in(dependence), obedience, (self-) destruction, desolation, absence and fleeing. The charismatic British artist, who lives in Bergen, has collaborated with leading musicians and ensembles from all over the world. Her compositions, performances and concerts have been featured at several international festivals and in major concert halls. All About Jazz – New York has described her as producing '… a delivery between that of a rock-music diva and a verbal and physical contortionist'. She has also made her mark as the artistic director (2008–14) of the experimental music festival Borealis in Bergen. W W W.F IB.N O 0 67
