“F” Lack of accomplishment, below minimum grade level average a. A variety of assessments and tasks indicate little or no understanding of the subject matter. b. The student makes little or no effort to participate in classroom activities or discussions. c. The student does not complete required work or completes work at a level far below the standard for the class. d. The student is rarely and/or inadequately prepared for class. “I” Incomplete for students who have been absent for an extended period of time and who have not had adequate time to make up work. For students on long-term illness or injury that affects a subject that cannot be made up. For students who are unable to participate fully in a subject. For students who are administratively excused from participating in an entire period because of religious/moral beliefs. “MED” “AUD” “EXC” Guidelines For Student Promotion We expect students to study, complete homework and maintain a good attendance record. The following is a summary of the Teaneck Public Schools Promotion and Retention regulations. Grades Five and Six A student will be promoted to the next succeeding grade level when he or she passes and completes all required subjects. Failure of one required subject may result in a conditional promotion. A student failing one required subject will be encouraged to make up the work in summer school or by approved, certified tutoring. Failure of two or more subjects may result in retention in the grade. Grade Seven A student will be promoted to the next succeeding grade level when he or she passes and completes all required courses. Failure of one required course may result in a conditional promotion. A student who fails two or more courses may be retained in his/her grade. A student who fails two or more required courses may make up those subjects either in summer school or by approved, certified tutoring. Grade Eight A student will be promoted to the next succeeding grade level when he or she passes and completes all required courses. Failure of one required course may result in a conditional promotion. A student who fails two or more courses may be retained in his/her grade. A student who fails two or more required courses may make up those subjects either in summer school or by approved, certified tutoring. Students who fail three or more subject areas will not be permitted to take part in moving up ceremonies. 27
