ATTENDANCE/ABSENCES/TARDINESS
Both parents and school officials have an obligation to see that students of school age
actually attend school.
The compulsory education laws of New Jersey hold
parents/guardians responsible for regular attendance for children between the ages of six
and sixteen. Regular attendance at school is a fundamental prerequisite to enable students
to benefit from the provision of free education.
A student is expected to attend all the days and hours that the public schools are in session
in the District.
1. In Grades K-8, when a student exceeds the limit of the eighteen (18) absences
permitted, the building principal has the authority to retain the student or to require
completion of specified academic responsibilities before promotion is granted.
2. All absences will count toward this limit with the exception of the non-countable
absences listed below:
a. Court-ordered appearance
b. Suspension from school
c. Death in the immediate family
