Things That I Hate: Giving Thanks Edition

by Andrew

Hi everyone. Once again, it's time for Things That I Hate. In this edition, the subject is giving thanks. This one is a bit tricky. There are so many reasons to give thanks this time of year. Health, happiness, and love is three of those things. Question is how do you figure out things that you hate when giving thanks? That's the challenge for me. Before we proceed, I must give the following disclaimer. All "Things That I Hate" are solely mine and in no way represent the views or staff of Bending Reality Magazine. Now that is done, let's get started.

The first topic for this edition is unexpected people calling you or knocking on your door. Now while this is nice sometimes, depending on who it is; it can be a bit disturbing. Don't you hate when you're about to sit down and eat when the phone rings or perhaps when the doorbell rings? Some of the time, the person on the other line is someone soliciting something. Feels like that happens when you're about to sit down. Giving thanks to eat your meal while not disturbed is a wonderful thing, but as we get around the holidays, this cannot be avoided. It's tradition.

The second topic for this edition is bringing the wrong food over. I had to dig deep down to figure out this one because even if it is the wrong food, when you're with company, it doesn't matter. Seriously here, let's say you were supposed to bring a pumpkin pie but instead bring a sweet potato pie for Thanksgiving. Now while this is quite popular in the south, having tradition broken by unusual food can spoil the dinner. Personally, I feel it wouldn't.

Folks, I'm going to finish this edition by going into Things That I Like about giving thanks. We are getting into that time of year where there are going to be many events going on in our lives during this time of year. One of the traditions is the Macy Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Another tradition for me is to do seven performances of The Nutcracker right after Thanksgiving. Another tradition is to begin the holiday shopping. Of course, Black Thursday or Friday can be quite annoying because of trying to get those special deals at that time. It's tradition for some people, not for everyone. Even those people who are homeless will get a thanksgiving meal. It is tradition for the soup kitchen to do that. Tradition and giving thanks, two of the best things we look forward to every year. Be safe out there please. The best traditions include those people who can come to your event. Until next time, I'm out.
