Just when you thought it was safe to start decorating that tree, just when you thought the Grinch would come down to Whoville, just when you thought it was safe to sing carols, it's the person who hate things!! Lock your doors, prepare to be mystified. *lol* Just kidding folks. The theme for this edition of Things that I hate is the holidays. Thanksgiving has come and gone. The major holidays are just about to happen. Before we begin, the following disclaimer must be given. All "Things That I hate" are mine and in no way represent the staff of Bending Reality Magazine. Now that is done, warm yourself up by the fire with some egg nog to drink, for it is time to unwrap some gifts.

The first topic for this edition is not getting to your destination on time. Why does this happen? There are a few factors. First of all, it depends on where you are going. This time of year, the malls are crowded, especially on the weekends. There can be traffic problems. There can be long lines at the airport. I've gone through some of them myself. I hate when this happens. How to not let it happen? Let's take this one by one. For the mall, go there during the week. Mondays thru Thursdays are the best time since it's not as crowded. Also, going there while the kids are still at school is good. For traffic problems, this one can be tricky. Figuring out a way to get around it using a GPS system would help. For this and for the airport, the answer is quite obvious. Getting there early will help you get settled before crazy things begin. We're at the time of year when things do happen like this. Do your best to keep cool!

The second topic for this edition is traffic. Specifically, driving during the winter. Where I am now, we rarely get any snow. When we get snow, people panic, the city shuts down. Do I panic when something like this happens? Nope! This part I hate as well for the following reason. People who are not used to this type of weather can make life miserable for others. Going to give you an example here. I and my late father were in Washington D.C. We decided to leave back for home a day earlier than planned because of a nor’easter coming to the area. We were supposed to make it to Indianapolis, Indiana, but ended up in Columbus, Ohio. The following morning on the way to Indianapolis, there was about thirty vehicles in the snow bank on either side of the interstate in the snowbank. People don't understand how it is to drive through winter weather conditions unless you experience it. How can this be better next time? Plan ahead, slow down, and take your time. Unless you are in a rush to get to your destination, just keep calm. You'll get to your destination safely.

The final topic for this edition is New Year’s. What do I mean? It is custom to stay up till midnight on December 31 so you can ring in the New Year. I've heard of New Year’s resolutions, but I'm not talking about that. Don't you hate when you're ready to stay up till midnight, but you end up falling short? It has happened to me before. How to correct this? Pretty simple. Try to take a nap in the middle of the day. There's plenty of things going on New Year’s Eve, whether it be college football, parties, or something different. If you want to make it to midnight, plan ahead. A short nap will help you make it to midnight.

Before I conclude this edition, I would like to say that if you are planning to go out partying during this time of year and drink too much, get a designated driver, or call a taxi to get you home safely. Last thing people want is to know you won't make it because you drank too much. So be careful folks. Until the next edition, Happy Holidays!!
