If someone tells you they speak “Gorean” what are they really saying? Are they referring to the common tongue of GOR, with several related dialects or sublanguages, or the archaic forms used by Initiates called Old Gorean, or the languages of the Red Hunters, the Red Savages or the natives of the southern plains? Or could it even be the language of the Priest Kings or the Kurii? Let’s say it’s the common tongue of the city of Ar with the accent of the High Class? It does get complicated, eh?

The following are some selected words from the common tongue. These are useful or interting words that could be used within Red Light Center.

Ai = yes

Bara = belly

Da = here

Gor = homestone

Har-ta = faster

Kajirae = female slave

Kajirus = male slave

Ko-lar = collar

Nadu = kneel back on thighs

Sa-Forna = chain sister

Sardar = Priest-King (Diety)

Sula = on your back

Tower = kneel upright

Veck = stand

Verus = true/truth

Common Phrase, Word Concepts & Gestures

“stranger” = ‘enemy’

“we” = group of free people

‘Hail” = greeting reserved for an expert or champion

“Tal” = common greeting (with salute to Free & no salute to slave)

“I wish you well.” = phrase of parting

“I ask your favor.” = please

“share our kettle” = invite to dinner
