Hi and welcome to Webkids. My name is Miriam O’Connor and I am a mom to three children and founder of Webkids.ie A few years ago, I returned to college by night and completed a BSc Degree in Computing however following this came a diagnosis of autism for my eldest child. Having a child with autism in the family has changed my whole perspective to education, now recognising the need for an alternative choice of learning that facilitates children of varying abilities to learn new skills that suit individual learning needs. I have just completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Special Education Needs where the research highlights the promotion of inclusion in education through differentiated instruction and content. W ebkids aims to accommodate children’s different learning styles including visual, auditory and hands on learning techniques to help them learn in a way that will inspire them to reach their full potential. The first course is on Web Development including html and CSS and uses a combination of video, text and an interactive learning 30 30 page where children can try out various tasks and instantly see the results of the code they type. Webkids is starting with coding skills however hopes to enhance its offering on a phased basis to include topics from a variety of different industry sectors. ELSI-R our Exceptional Life Skilled Super Intelligent Robot is a great friend to have as she guides the children through the learning, providing explanations on each new concept. Webkids is passionate about empowering children with 21st century skills that will give them the confidence and self-esteem to thrive going forward. Our goal is to inspire children to reach their full potential, creating pathways for further learning opportunities.
