The Junior Film Fleadh is the young people ’ s arm of the prestigious Galway Film Fleadh . Running for 4 days in November , the festival is curated with young people in mind and includes an array of features , shorts , animations , workshops and an annual story pitching competition . The festival celebrates the magic and power of cinema in educating , entertaining and informing .
2017 ’ s festival screened a range of contemporary language films to support the curriculum in French , German and Spanish including ‘ Ma Vie De Courgette ’ ( Senior French ) ‘ Le Voyage de Fanny ’ ( Junior French ) ‘ Goodbye Berlin ’ ( Senior German ) and for Spanish ‘ RaRa ’ ( winner of Grand Prize Berlin 2016 ). As well as providing insights into contemporary culture and language these films explored themes relevant to young people . All of the films were introduced and supported by specially written resource guides . An outreach programme includes Irish language shorts ( in association with Foras na Gaeilge ) and new German films ( with support from Goethe Institut Irland ) bringing cinema into the classroom

along with Jacub Ackerman from the Holocaust Museum in Slovakia , and hosted a discussion after the film . Additionally the festival continues to put the work of young people centre stage with Future Filmmakers which showcased the vast array of filmmaking talent in schools , young groups and summer camps .
