BellTIME St Mary’s University, Twickenham, London St Mary’s University, Twickenham is a thriving academic environment where every student is valued, encouraged and supported. It is proud to be a teaching-led institution, and it is rated Silver in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). London’s safest campus offers students the best of both worlds, and is just 30 minutes to central London by train and within walking distance of a good choice of shops, restaurants and nightlife. The University is a strong and welcoming community of students and staff and has a vibrant research culture and environment. It recently scored 88% for overall satisfaction in the 2018 National Student Survey. Founded on Catholic values, it is an inclusive institution with a mission to provide students with an excellent education and lays the foundations for a successful life and career, while undertaking world-leading research and contributing to the community and wider society. Founded in 1850, St Mary’s has grown to around 6,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and it offers a wide range of degree programmes. St Mary’s dedicated careers team helps students decide on career paths, find part-time work during their studies and provides workshops to enable them to gain skills appealing to graduate employers. The Centre for Workplace Learning offers students the opportunity to undertake a work placement in a sector of their choice, accredited as part of their degree. The Students’ Union is housed in its own building with a bar with Sky Sports and music stage area as well as a range of entertainment facilities. They organise entertainment on campus including weekly quizzes, the Summer Ball and Fresher’s Week, and has over 40 clubs and societies covering hobbies, sports and academic interests. The dedicated Accommodation Service helps students staying in halls of residence and off-campus. The halls are within easy reach of campus and include a student meal plan. There is a mix of en-suite accommodation and shared bathroom facilities to suit a range of budgets, although all accommodation has shared kitchen facilities and some also have common rooms. St Mary’s has recently invested £6m in a brand-new library and has industry-standard Media Arts and Strength and Conditioning Suites, Dance and drama studios. It also boasts world-class sports facilities, which are regularly used by former alumni Sir Mo Farah and Moe Sbihi. These have also been utilised by a number of international teams that took part in the London 2012 Olympic Games, as well as South African, Australian and New Zealand rugby teams. The Chaplaincy team is at the heart of campus and provides pastoral care and support to all students. It has an inclusive mission and welcomes students from all faiths and backgrounds, offering access to the Chaplaincy Centre, University Chapel and Multi-Faith Prayer Room along with links to other local Churches while the university also prides itself on its student-centric support system with a strong Student Services team. 60 www.stmarys.ac.uk
