Academic Excellence Carlow College , St . Patrick ’ s is the second oldest third level institution in Ireland and has been serving the educational needs of students across Ireland since 1793 . Carlow College , St . Patrick ’ s offers degree programmes in Humanities , Applied Social Studies in Social Care , English and History , and Citizenship and Community Studies . The Humanities and English and History degrees have recognition from the Teaching Council for the purposes of teaching English , History and Religion . Many of our graduates from the Social Care programmes will pursue careers in care agencies where the skills they have acquired in their degree will be directly applicable . A number of students pursue postgraduate study and many return to Carlow College after some years of practical work experience to take the Masters in Therapeutic Child Care ( MATCC ).
