BellTIME European Parliament Competition - WIN a trip to Strasbourg for Transition Year and Senior Cycle students (4th-5th year) The European Parliament is awarding almost €8,000 to help you bring a group of students to visit the European Parliament in Strasbourg and represent Ireland at our one-day youth parliament, Euroscola. We are asking students to create a one-minute video clip by 16th November 2018 on: ‘My EU Election Campaign.’ In 1918 women in Ireland won the right to vote – and for the first time a woman was elected to both Dáil Éireann and the House of Commons. A lot has changed since then and 100 years later the citizens of Europe will elect their MEPs in May 2019. Taking your inspiration from the big democratic advances of 1918, imagine you are a candidate in the next EU Elections. What are the issues most important to you? Are they issues that arise at local, national or European level? Tell us in your one-minute video clip! We are awarding three educational visits to the European Parliament in Strasbourg (one school from each European Constituency) for 24 students aged 16-18 and two teachers to represent Ireland at Euroscola. Each winning school will receive a travel subsidy of approx. €300 per person, which normally covers most of the travel costs. To find out more about Euroscola visit www.europarl.ie/youth We encourage teachers to act as facilitators for their students. The main purpose of the competition is to get students thinking about European democracy and active citizenship. The project can be an individual or team effort but we can only accept one entry per school. The clip should be a maximum of one minute long. Want to get involved? Here’s our simple three step guide for submitting your entry: Step 1. Upload your video clip to YouTube (max. one minute long and one entry per school) Step 2. Send the URL of your video clip by email to: [email protected] Step 3. Include the following contact details: Name and address of school and name and email of the teacher(s). The closing date for entries is: Friday, 16th November 2018 (5:00pm) 48 Although judges will consider production quality, it will not be a deciding factor. Therefore, video clips may be made using a mobile device. The judges’ decision will be final. Equal marks will be awarded for: creativity, production quality, clarity of ideas and originality. It is important to note that by submitting your entry you give consent to the European Parliament to use your video clip, copyright free, on its website, in its publications and on its social media platforms. The European Parliament will not share your contact details with any third party. Please also note that video clips cannot be considered if they contain music or images which might be subject to copyright. The three winning schools (one from each European constituency) will be announced on our website www.europarl.ie/youth on Friday, 30th November 2018. Winning schools will travel to Strasbourg in the first half of 2019. For further information, please contact: Anne McEvoy-Smyth by email: [email protected] or call 01-605 7900 49
