How do I join An Garda Síochána?
The Public Appointments Service (PAS) manages the
application process and the initial selection stages of
the Garda Trainee and Garda Reserve campaign on
behalf of the Garda Commissioner.
To register your interest you must have a “User
Account” on www.publicjobs.ie. If you have not already
done so, you must register as a ‘New User’ to create
your Profile (register a New Account). Once registered,
you can set up a job alert for positions within An Garda
Síochána. In the section “Create Job Alert” under Job
Category select “Security/Emergency Services” and
Sub Category “Garda” or “Garda Reserve” then “Add
alert”. Candidates should not confuse registering
(Creating a Profile) and setting up a job alert with
submitting an application. Once the position is
advertised you must then access the application form,
complete and submit it.

Opportunities for Civilians:
Garda civilian staff are involved in the provision of a
wide range of important administrative, professional,
technical and industrial support services. As well as
providing clerical support and financial management
functions in Garda stations and offices across the
country, civilian staff carry out a range of specialised
support roles in areas such as HR, IT and
telecommunications, teaching, finance and
procurement, internal audit, communications, research
and analysis, accommodation, scene-of-crime support,
legal and medical services. In addition, a number of vital
operational support areas are either wholly or largely
staffed by civilian staff, such as the Garda Central
Vetting Bureau (GCVB), the Garda Information Services
Centre (GISC), the Fixed Charge Processing Office
(FCPO) and the Command and Control Centre (C&C).
Following Government approval, An Garda Síochána
will increase the number of civilians in the organisation
to 4,000 by 2021, which will bring in much-needed skills
and experience in a wide-range of areas to help improve
the organisation.
The Public Appointments Service (PAS) is the
centralised provider for recruitment, assessment and
selection services for the Civil Service, including An
Garda Síochána.
