Community spirit at Mary Immaculate College sets it apart from other colleges OPEN DAYS MIC Campus, Limerick, Thursday 18th & Friday 19th October 2018 and Saturday 12th January 2019 MIC, St Patrick’s Campus, Thurles, Saturday 24th November 2018 Mary Immaculate College (MIC) has many features to recommend it as a great college. Not least among them are leading programmes in the liberal arts, theatre studies, primary and post-primary teacher education and early childhood degrees, two state-of-art campuses in Limerick and Thurles, and a reputation for excellence in learning and research. However, for new students entering MIC one of the biggest benefits to them will be the excellent student support services and the community spirit that exists throughout the College. With a student population of just over 4,500, unlike some bigger colleges, MIC gives students a home-from-home feel and a close knit community experience. According to Dr Geraldine Brosnan, Director of Student Life at MIC; “MIC prides itself on our high quality student experience. The College's support services are extensive and of very high quality. Part of our mission and vision is to create a community of scholars where staff and students work together and our aim is to provide services, activities, and resources that maintain the College’s educational enterprise while also supporting our students personally as they learn, grow, and change through their time at MIC”. To add to the student experience MIC has recently unveiled plans for a 21st century Library and Learning Resource Centre designed to accommodate the College’s increasing student numbers, which are set to reach 5,000 by 2020. 26 Landmark programme developments include the augmented Bachelor of Arts programme, in collaboration with the University of Limerick (UL), that offers students a wider range of subject choices, making it the largest jointly delivered programme in Ireland. The innovative BA in Contemporary and Applied Theatre Studies programmes continues to go from strength to strength as it prepares graduates to enter the cut- and-thrust of the arts world. While MIC, St Patrick’s Campus, Thurles now offers five post-primary teaching programmes with unique content and subject combinations, including the new BA in Education, Mathematics and Gaeilge. Alongside these programmes are the ever popular primary teaching degrees, early childhood degrees, in addition to a range of CPD programmes and postgraduate programmes at Diploma, MA and PhD level. The College’s Liberal Arts and Education programmes are widely recognised and celebrated, nationally and internationally, for their academic excellence, offering learners the critical, analytical and transferrable skills central to the success of the ever evolving economy.
