WHAT IS YOUR PASSION

It goes without saying that music is my passion, although I truly believe that you need to be passionate about life in order to become a better artist. It is my passion for life that feeds my creativity. I try to consistently be aware of my surroundings and circumstances and that has inspired me in many ways. You cannot write something truly meaningful about life if you have not first lived. It’s essential that we open ourselves to experiences as this is the only way to grow and evolve as a human.

Travel is another passion of mine which also falls in line with what I have been saying about living life and having experiences to inspire me. I have literally travelled the world and will continue to do so as long as I can. It’s not enough for me to read about things. I need to see and feel them first hand.

Tell us about your music

The songs I currently have out on my EP Spellcasting are straight ahead Rock. I am definitely inspired by 80’s rock and I think you can hear that in the songs. The songs were written in the fall of 2016 at a special spot I found by the lake in Toronto. It definitely helps to find a spot like that where you can have quiet and serenity to clear your mind and write. Some of it is biographical, while others were inspired by something I’d seen or heard. Here’s a little background on each of the songs:

“Somethin’ Ain’t Right” - This songs was inspired by all the stories of online flirtations by married men with single women. It intrigued me that we have come to a time when it is common place to have online “relationships” which seem far less harmless and might not be seen as “cheating” when kept to flirting on the internet.

“Too Pretty to Die” - Without a doubt my personal favourite, although the subject matter in no way reflects my own personality. One day I was writing with a friend of mine and he had Texas Chainsaw Massacre on the television. I got distracted from our writing session when I saw scene in which this incredibly beautiful girl was being killed and I recall thinking “this girl is too pretty to die in this movie”. I thought it would be interesting to write the song from the point of view of the killer as that couldn’t be further from my own personality! Funny enough it seems to be the frown favourite at live shows!

“Never Again” - This song was inspired when a girl I knew was telling me about her relationship with a boyfriend. She was completely in love, while he on the other hand was continuously flirting with other girls and indifferent to the relationship, but somehow she couldn’t let go and allowed herself to be continuously hurt by his actions. I tried to write it from a point of view of coming out strong through and not being the victim. I hope she’s let him go since then!

“Young Blood” - I recall being slightly embarrassed when I shared this song with my producer at the time, John Angus. Everyone who knows me is aware that I am more Joan Jett than Samantha Fox. I don’t try and play the role of “sex-kitten” and much prefer being “one of the guys”, but this song was inspired by the idea of being attracted to someone younger and not necessarily acting on it. It’s just the ideas that might cross your mind that you can’t really say out loud. It’s about primal sexual attraction in it’s most raw form! I didn’t think I had it in me, but I guess we all do! Lol

Who are some of the people you play with

I have had a pretty interesting formula when it comes to playing with different musicians. It all started with my first show that I mentioned earlier opening for LA Guns. I recall the promoter asking me how I wanted my name on the poster promoting the show. I was going back and forth with using a band name or using only my own name. In the end I opted to use my name only as a solo artist. I did that because unbeknownst to the promoter I took the gig before I even had a band!
