disappears . Or a player develops to a higher level and de-commits based on a “ better opportunity or higher profile school .” Both scenarios are not good , unfortunately , it happens everyday and is a reality of this business .
I believe strongly that you must embrace and engage in this process . This cannot be done on a whim and it is going to take considerable time . The ultimate result is to find the right fit . The right place that you will be able to pursue your passion and create a bright future both on & off the field . Be diligent and do not panic . There is a spot for you .
In summary , I feel strongly that , as a family , if you apply the previous “ strategy ” to the recruiting process , it will bring some clarity and direction for you . It may not have the ultimate result you desire , but it will put you on a path to find an “ opportunity ” at a place to further your academic and athletic career . For some , you may find your spot sooner than others , but remember , if you have the baseball ability to play at the professional level , regardless of what level you play , they will find you . Base your decision on a sound investment in your future ; a solid opportunity to play ; a coaching staff that believes in you while being in an environment that is positive and conducive for success . Making a decision based on baseball only may work , but many times it is a short-term thing . Please remember the following :
1 . REAL EVALUATION 2 . PROJECT YOUR POTENTIAL LEVEL OF PLAY 3 . ASSEMBLE LIST OF SCHOOLS BASED ON PRIORITY “ FILTERS ” 4 . CREATE “ INTRO PACKAGE WITH VIDEO ” 5 . CONTACT PROSPECTIVE SCHOOLS 6 . FOLLOW-UP ACCORDINGLY 7 . ” REFRESH ” LIST FREQUENTLY 8 . MAKE FINAL DECISION BASED ON YOUR LONG-TERM FUTURE
As a head coach for the past 32 years , integrity is the most important thing to me . I believe strongly that if you are honest with prospective student-athletes and their families throughout the entire process , the result for both sides will be positive and productive . As I said earlier , my top priority has always been to prepare each player that played for me for the day after he played his last baseball game . Ideally , when that day comes , he will have a degree in hand , memories of a lifetime , life-long friends and an experience that will be with him forever .
Be Smart . Be Persistent . Be Passionate . Be Bold . Be REAL .
