to me?
5. What skills are needed?
Kenya Aid is not in the position to financially
support volunteers. We will do the best we can
to make sure that you have a rewarding and
enjoyable time and provide as much support as we
can but you will need to raise the money for travel
and living costs yourself.
Due to our commitment to sustainable aid, Kenya
Aid only accepts skilled volunteers or those
currently enrolled in a medical, paramedical
or education degree. If you don’t fit into these
categories but still believe you are a suitable
volunteer will skills to benefit the local community
we encourage you to get in touch!

Ultimately this is up to you. Shikunga is a long way
from anywhere in the world and if you have made
the journey there you will probably want to stay for
more than a few days. There is no fixed minimum
placement, however we suggest you stay at least
two weeks to properly immerse yourself in the
experience and to make an impact in the work you
are doing.
3. Is there an age limit?
So long as you are reasonably fit, mobile and
healthy there is no upper age limit. Unfortunately,
Kenya Aid is unable to accept volunteers under the
age of 18 years unless in the presence of a legal
guardian.
4. Can I take my partner or children?
You are more than welcome to include your family
in your volunteer placement providing room and
board is paid for each person to Onesmus. You’ll
find the locals will welcome your children with
open arms but please consider their personal
safety before travelling. Due to the prevalence
of communicable disease and malaria, Shikunga
is not considered a safe destination for young
children or pregnant women.
If you get sick in Shikunga your first course of
action is to let Onesmus know. If it is a general
illness he will assist you in obtaining any necessary
medications and support from the clinic and
monitor your recovery.
If you feel you are seriously ill, contract malaria
or have been exposed to an infected substance
call Ryan immediately so we can provide the best
course of action for your circumstances.
