Whilst prices have risen, they haven’t put
customers off or prevented them from
treating themselves, and we’ve seen a
significant boost to the amount customers
are spending on average each year.
FEMALE FREQUENCY
Women’s beauty treatments in particular
have become a more regular occurrence,
with less time left between tan top-ups,
facials, manicures, pedicures and hair
removal compared to last year. The most
notable increase in demand has been
for pedicures, where women are now
squeezing in an extra appointment each
year to keep toes in tip top condition (up
from 9 times a year to 10).
MALE FREQUENCY
For men, frequency has remained
generally consistent with previous years
for various treatments. The average time
left between appointments has stayed at
4 weeks for haircuts and 6.1 weeks for hair
colour, matching our 2016 findings.
With that said, our findings reveal that
men are also waiting slightly longer
between treatments such as shaves,
tanning and hair removal. This potentially
balances out the huge increases in
frequency we saw last year, but again
has not had a negative effect on their
annual spend. As we’ve highlighted on
the previous page, the cost of an annual
basket of treatments for both men and
women continues to grow in value.
Norwich is the chattiest city. A whopping
96% say they like to talk to their hair
or beauty professional when getting a
treatment
Edinburgh is the DIY treatment capital of
the UK, with almost 60% admitting that
they’ve done a hair or beauty treatment at
home recently
