Levendal Access Spine links luxury estates to R45

Construction on the Levendal Access Spine road , for repeat client Val de Vie , is well underway . The project was awarded to NMC Civils , a division of the NMC Construction Group , on the back of excellent delivery on past projects including the Polo Village and The Vines .
Val de Vie purchased 93 hectares of land across the Berg River . This has enabled them to construct an access road and bridge that will be used by residents from both the Val de Vie and Pearl Valley estates . In addition , the new road will link both estates with the R45 , reducing travel time into the Stellenbosch CBD and allow quicker access to the N1 highway .
Valued at R136 million , the scope of works on this project comprises the construction of a five legged roundabout on the R45 , a paved access road to Val de Vie , a 315 dia bulk water main , services , a concrete b r i d g e o v e r B e r g R i v e r ( including architectural design ), culverts and S / W plan for 1 / 100 year flood management and geo-piling to the bridge .
“ The team has done remarkably well in meeting the client ' s needs and we are very proud that the alternative bridge construction proposal submitted to the client was approved . We are working hard to continue innovating and looking at ways to work smarter within our operations .
One such initiative came about in light of the current water shortage in the Western Cape . Through sourcing water from the Berg River for all site activities , we have managed to save a significant amount of water and not utilise the municipal water supply for daily operations .” Tobie Cilliers , Senior Site Agent .
