Tools
You can use a whole host of things that you wouldn’t ordinarily class as a “tool” to aid you
when sculpting. There are “staples” that most sculpters will use, such as clay shapers but
among my collection are nail files, diamond files, straws, pens and pencils, needle tools, a bead
reamer...even a debit card! Different sizes, different shapes...all leave different impressions!
Needle tools are generally used
by potters for measuring the depth
of a slab of clay, scoring clay when
using slip, for cutting out shapes in
clay and for incising/drawing into
the clay. I mostly use mine for cutting out shapes.
