Inter-House Football Competition Resilience and the Iron Men of the U-12 Mrs Maggie Eubanks, Deputy Head of School Aaryan Amar, Year 6 At about 8:00 am on the grassy green football pitch, students gathered in the football stands ready to support their Houses and excited to watch and play Beacon Academy’s 1st Inter-House Football competition. Two football matches went on on either side of the football pitch and the football coaches for each House oversaw the matches, trying to make sure that their team won. During the matches, students in the stands supported their Houses by chanting their House cheer. On the football pitch, the players were not only working very hard but were also having fun. Teachers and students were impressed with their awesome skill in football. After the semifinals, tension started building up, and because of all the players’ skill, it made it hard for viewers to guess who would win the matches. Two of the matches finished and House of Water won both. Soon after, Water and Fire moved to the other side of the pitch to watch the final match between Air and Water, which resulted in an extra time (ten minutes) due to a tie, and - Water won. Water ended up winning all three matches in Beacon Academy’s first annual Inter-House Football competition. = On Saturday, Beacon Academy's U-12 team fought with heart and determination. Showing true resilience, they played 48 minutes of football without a single substitute to allow them to rest. Going into half-time, the score was 0-0. Unfortunately, they ended up losing 2-0 on a penalty kick from a handball in the box at the end of the third quarter and a last minute direct kick on a foul at the end of the fourth. They never quit, though, and in the last two minutes they had three shots on goal. The opposing coach at the end of the game made a point to compliment the team for their spirit. He was very impressed with their running on and off the field each time. They never quit, never gave up and played with great sportsmanship. “Football is a magical game”, is a quote by David Beckam, and this quote was proven right at Beacon Academy’s Inter-house Football of 2014.
