#BCS The students at Avery’s Creek Elementary benefit greatly from the community partnerships established this year with Hampton Inn (Lunch Buddy Program), T.C. Roberson High School (JROTC mentoring program), and the TCR Jr. Varsity football team (Reading Buddy Program). Candler Elementary 2nd grader Brooke Warren saved her Candler “CATS” tickets to get a coupon to be a helper in the school cafeteria. It’s part of the school’s PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports ) program. Students earn tickets for meeting behavior expectations. The School Nutrition Department was recognized at the No Kid Hungry North Carolina Conference for its Summer Food Service Program. The second award recognizes Avery’s Creek Elementary for having the most growth of the Universal Breakfast program. 95 % of their students there eat breakfast on a daily basis. 25 Suzanne Hinesley, the Media Specialist at Haw Creek Elementary, presented at the technology conference NCTIES (North Carolina Technology in Education Society). She was accepted to speak about 3D printing and how it can be used in the elementary school. She spoke about how to use the 3D printer with the curriculum and how students can use their imaginations and engineering skills to create. (Pictured with Jansen Moore, Kindergartener.)
