California

Ah yes, California! What a perfect area of the country for Bay Life Living Magazine to be focused on during such a romantic month such as February with Valentine’s Day! Like true love, no one can really know this rapturous and romantic state unless you have lived it. And I am not about to spoil what I know of it either. Unless, of course you read on. Hey now! There are some things that you just need to go and experience for yourself, and form your own opinions. Who am I to spoil it for you if you’ve never been, right? Okay, so, sharing a few key things couldn’t hurt. In fact, it may be very advantageous.

First of all, it’s as if you have three states in one. Mostly, when people think of California, their immediate thoughts go to Hollywood celebrities, movies, and shopping on Rodeo Drive. But, California is so much more than that. There are many facets to the state that most people would not even begin to fathom. Like how you can be in the mountains and on the beach at the same time. Or, how dressing in layers in the summer time is a wise thing to do there, because you never know when that fog might be rolling in making things cooler than expected.

A funny observation (Not ha, ha, funny, more a peculiar funny) is having been raised twenty six hundred miles away, and noticing that people who have never been to California, don’t really know California. You seldom hear of people regarding the state for its many treasures. Not because it’s not there, but, because they just don’t know. I never heard anyone talk about what I found to be some of the most fascinating attributes that California has to offer. I had to visit California many, many, times driving up and down the coastline from the southern to the northern part, and vice versa, to really get that myself.

One of my favorite experiences in California was driving a Mercedes SL 400 convertible through the wine country, and visiting a winery. The scenery from that perspective was perfectly magnificent, and immensely satisfying! Feeling both lost in the moment, and lost in time, while pulling off to a grassy area to just lay out in the open air taking it all in, with the most tantalizing snacks, and a blanket, was the most inviting nap I had ever dared to experience.

It’s quite possible to feel as if you’ve stepped back into the 70’s with the laid back, relaxed, and carefree atmosphere, this wonderful state bestows on your soul.
