Vitali & Farahri - Exclusive interview Continues

Vitali

Farahri I really enjoyed listening to your new track ‘What She Said’.  Tell me and our Bay Life Living readers more about the meaning within the body of the lyrics you are singing?

Farahri

“She’s never given up. Because she’s strong enough. Sacrificed and made a life. Her story’s your story with her words. Tell the world to watch out. No fear and no doubt. World eat your heart out cuz she’s about to do it right now!”

The essence of the song is about the struggle women face to play the many roles they play while fulfilling their dreams. We women gain so much experience from having to balance so much and are not readily listened to or taken seriously, hence the chorus “You wanna know what she said, she said, she might just change your life. Listen to what she said, she said, because she might be right.” I originally started writing it about my mom who is such an incredible human being that went through a lot to raise 3 awesome (if I may say so myself) kids, support a husband and his mother and his sister while working and being a strong member of our religious community. There were so many times she would tell me stuff and give me advice but I never really listened and this song was originally meant to say that I should’ve listened and not taken for granted all the experience she had. Then a couple of months after I wrote it, I re-read the lyrics and realized I subconsciously also wrote it about myself! All the sacrifices I’ve made and struggles I’ve been through to follow my dreams and how I’m on the verge of letting the world know who I am and what I stand for.

Also, are we to expect a new music video for this song? I am certain our Bay Life Living Readers are looking forward to seeing this.

Farahri

I would absolutely love to shoot a music video for this song. We have an idea in place for this and several other songs on the EP and we will be finalizing soon, which ones to shoot first. I would really love this to be one of them though ;)

Vitali

Tell me about your music videos?  What is your favorite one and why? Where it was shot and who looks after your wardrobe?

Farahri

My favorite music video so far is Shake Your Body featuring Gyptian. It was a lot of fun and was the result of serious teamwork and some really amazing people not to mention a huge superstar like Gyptian who was great to work with. It was shot in Etobicoke and it has always been my manager, who is also a fashion designer, looking after my wardrobe. I have an idea or feel of what I want or sometimes he does and then we put it together. Often he sews me clothes from scratch. However, I think my favorite music video is yet to come. I’ve been really looking forward to shooting videos with more of a story line and acting, and the songs on this new EP definitely have songs with amazing story lines that have a lot of artistic potential.

Vitali

Farahri, when you listen to yourself sing, who do you compare yourself to?

Farahri

When I was growing up, I taught myself to sing by emulating Mariah Carey so I always compared myself to her and she is definitely a huge influence. Lately though, I would say moreso Sia or Lauryn Hill. They are just incredible with the power and passion they transcend through their vocals that really bring the songs to life lyrically and melodically.

Vitali

Tell me more about the Pageant Tour? How it started and in what cities did you perform in?

Farahri

The Pageant tour started with my song ‘Take Me As I Am’ which is a hugely inspiring track about self-confidence, overcoming self-doubt and being comfortable enough in your own skin to tell the world to take you as you are. This was a great fit for pageants and my manager saw this and reached out and booked several pageants in 2014. It started in Vancouver with the Miss World finals and then to Toronto for Miss Canada Globe and Miss Toronto Asia and then Miss Universe Washington in Seattle.
