Bass Musician Magazine - SPECIAL August 2014 Female Bassist Issue | Page 124
Moving away from the cliché, short skirt
and low cut shirt is important to many
female players. “I love that the diversity
that’s been there all along is starting to
really show,” she says, as she is proud
to contribute to that frame of mind. “I
am happy to see women like, Me’Shell
Ndegeocello, Esperanza Spalding and
Annie Clements out there doing their
thing.”
The bar for female players continues
to be raised by ladies like Jemila and
her attitude is a huge contributor, “If
you’re a true musician, you’ll receive
respect from other true musicians. It
doesn’t matter if you have boobs under
the horn of your bass or not.”
