The Bosun’s Mate 24 Cutting a Centre Board or Dagger Board Slot It is often suggested that you use a router to cut a smooth edged slot for the centre/dagger board. It is hard to get a nice smooth slot with a saw or chisel; if it isn’t smooth the board can get scratched; and it can be hard to seal – letting water in and leading to rot. The trouble is that unless the hull bottom is flat the router will sit at an angle to the case sides. Photo 3 “Dagger Board Case Installed in a Shallow V Dinghy Hull”. So the challenge is to keep the router perpendicular to the centre/dagger board case. Photo 3 “Dagger Board Case Installed in a Shallow V Dinghy Hull”.
