2 BAMOS Mar 2019 Bulletin March 2019 Page 14 Black Saturday 2019 marks ten years since the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria. This issue we publish reflections from a resident of Kinglake and a summary of the AMOS Event "A decade on: Lessons from Black Saturday". The event was held on Tuesday 5 February 2019, with five of the nation’s fire weather experts presenting on research relating to the bushfires. Page 16 Art Competition Congratulations to the winners and participants in the AMOS Art Competition 2018. The competition theme this year was “Weather-powered world” and we are pleased to be able to publish a few of these creative pieces for BAMOS readers. Page 22 Sensors and schools A new citizen science project in schools has launched and is looking at working with students to install instruments and monitor the atmosphere. Schools Weather and Air Quality (SWAQ) is a project funded by the Australian Government and will work with 20 schools across Sydney to collect data for urban climate, meteorology and air quality research. Read all about the initiative in this issue. Page 32 Seasonal snaps The summer edition of this section presents photographs taken around Australia. We received some great before and after photos from storms across Melbourne. A couple of great snaps of unusual phenomena, such as sea-mist, were also captured. We look forward to seeing what the weather brings to you this autumn—share your snaps to BAMOS for next issue!
