(CAFS) have been a part of Ballarat since 1865 when the Ballarat & District Orphan Asylum was established. The recently opened CAFS Legacy & Research Centre houses an exhibition and collection that showcase this important personal and public history in the form of documents, photographs, films and artefacts. During Heritage Weekend, M.A.D.E shines a light on Ballarat’s Chinatown and the Chinese architecture that used to exist on Main Road, including an article written in the early 50’s that describes what Chinatown looked like, where it was and why the Chinese heritage in Ballarat is so unique and special.
