Balayage at SEVEN June 2014 | Page 2

BALAYAGE IS – Balayage is amazing. It is a free-hand technique of painting highlights onto the hair. Balayage is meant to give your hair the sun-kissed summer version of your natural hair color. The technique tends to work better on women who have little to no gray in their natural hair color. It can be applied over an all-over color, but ensure your hair is in good health before jumping in. Blondes and brunettes alike, are great Balayage candidates. Fair warning – executing this look on too dark of a brunette color might result in slightly warmer tones. THE UPKEEP Balayage can apply to several different looks and needs to be maintained at different rates. For women who love to see depth in their regrowth, they are able to go up to four months without having more Balayage. For clients who keep their gray at bay, you may be able to get two or three root touch ups in between receiving Balayage to keep the depth and contrast present. THE STYLE Balayage stands out the most when hair is styled with loose curls or with a beachy, tousled look. That’s where the color variations play on the movement of the hairstyle most visibly. Strong geometric haircuts without layers, like a short bob, aren’t likely good candidates for Balayage because the highlights need movement in the haircut to come alive.
