H
ave you ever had those
small whispers that make
you think, “What if I did
that?” Usually they’re met im-
mediately with, “Well that’s cra-
zy and completely unrealistic!”
What would happen, though, if
you decided to actually follow
that whisper to see where you
ended up? That’s exactly what I
decided to do.
In February 2017, I was sitting
in my home office in Chicago
not really sure where I wanted
things to go in the near future. I
was recently out of a relation-
ship that I never wanted to have
end. Everywhere I looked, I
was still surrounded by his stuff
and our life together. I knew
he wasn’t coming back to live
in the apartment we had made
a home out of, even though his
stuff was everywhere. I started
to contemplate what I wanted to
do once our lease was up at the
end of July. Did I really want to
continue to live in the apartment
by myself again once all his stuff
was out? Not really.
That’s when the voice hit. “What
if you got rid of all your stuff,
didn’t re-sign your lease, and just
traveled?” I had always wanted
to just pick up and leave just to
see what it would be like, but it
was never a feasible option.
Immediately ego came in,
“That doesn’t make sense. You
have cats. You don’t have a car.
Where the fuck are you going to
go? You hate change. That’s so
unlike you!” For the first time on
that extreme of a level, I decided
to listen to the whisper. “I’m go-
ing to do it. I have no clue how,
but I’ll figure it out.”
Over the next 5 months, I
dwindled down my almost 1100
square foot apartment to 2 sets
of things: First, 2 Rubbermaid
tubs and a cedar chest I would
keep at my parents’ house and
then, the stuff I could fit into a
midsize SUV I would rent. My
original plan was to keep big
items in a storage unit, such as
my piano and my 5-piece bed-
room set. As I got rid of more
and more of my things, I had less
of an attachment to my stuff and
just wanted it gone.
For a little while, it looked like
family was going to take my
piano. As 4th of July came and
went and I still had a piano in
my apartment, I knew it was
time to get serious about getting
it out. My ex had been really
amazing about being willing to
get rid of anything that was still
left in the apartment after I left,
but I had a pretty strong feeling
he wouldn’t appreciate being
stuck with a piano.
One and a half weeks before
leaving, I was talking to my
coach, “What the fuck am I
going to do?” She reassured
me, “It’ll all work out. Even if it
happens last minute, it will all
work out.” I went back to my
strategies I use when I want to
manifest anything -- focus on
what I want, visualize it hap-
pening, FEEL it happening,
continue to tell myself, “It’ll all
work out because it HAS to.” For
both the piano and bedroom set
I just kept saying, “Let it be easy.
Please just let it be easy.” I sim-
ply followed inspired action and
BOOM! Within a couple days,
I had 4 interested prospects in
the piano, two who came to see
it, one who paid on the spot and
the next week it was gone! I had
multiple interests in the bedroom
set. The next day, a woman, her
husband, and her son came out
and completely dismantled the
bed and moved all 5 pieces of the
bedroom set out while I sat and
collected the
