experiences and publishing my
memoir via the completely inde-
pendent way (CreateSpace) gave
me another set of experiences.
Was the learning curve steep
both ways? Yes.
Did I make mistakes? Yes.
But now, I’m also the smarter
for it for having these author-
preneur experiences and I’m
able to teach others how to avoid
pitfalls and the tasks one could
realistically and economically do
themselves if they decide indie
publishing is for them.
Every webinar or talk I attend-
ed in the year or so of research
and writing my manuscripts, I
became more empowered. The
increment of knowledge alone
was my tiny watering stations
along the way. Every task that I
finished and was able to cross off
on my list – whether I was work-
ing with the small press or on
CreateSpace – was another water
station from which I drank so
that I could move on in the pro-
verbial desert towards the oasis.
And learning how to market
my books – again from webi-
nars, talks with experts, online
research, observations on how
other authors do it – and mar-
keting them successfully enough
to push both books to Amazon’s
best selling ranks…well, that
was my final huge watering hole
waiting for me at the oasis.

quickly, but stay fearless and
keep trekking on. I promise you
there are tiny water stations
along way to keep you going, and
sooner or later, your oasis will be
visible along the horizon.
