After my Bernie dreams were crushed , I still couldn ’ t support Hillary . I couldn ’ t vote for the lesser of two evils . If I voted for someone I didn ’ t believe in , I knew I would regret it . Obviously , I couldn ’ t vote for Trump . The whole “ grab her by the pussy ” thing was disgusting . His entire campaign seemed like a “ reality ” show script . I honestly don ’ t think he even supported his campaign . I ’ m pretty sure he expected to lose .
Because my beloved Bernie was no longer in the running , I had to find another candidate . During my search , I came across Gary Johnson . I couldn ’ t find any misogynistic comments from him . He was fiscally conservative and socially liberal . He was able to cut taxes when he was governor . He wanted to repeal Obamacare , which has royally screwed me . Seriously , I pay $ 200 a month for the worst coverage in the world . Gary didn ’ t want to take away our guns , which is important to me as a soon-to-be competitive shooter . He wanted to get rid of the ridiculous federal ban on marijuana . Yes , Gary had made some faux pas on the campaign trail , who can forget the “ Aleppo ” debacle , but I truly believed in his policies , and I still Felt the Johnson . I proudly voted for him a couple weeks before Election Day , because I didn ’ t want to deal with the crowds .
As we all know , Trump beat both Hillary and Gary . Many were outraged . Women all over the country , including celebrities like Chelsea Handler , started calling out other women for voting against Hillary . They claimed that there must be something wrong with this country , when women are voting for a racist , misogynistic asshole like Donald Trump over a fellow woman . Many also claimed that people who voted third party were just as culpable as those who voted for Trump .
Feminism is not the same for everyone . The concept of intersectional feminism is based around the concept that no two women experience womanhood in the same way . Some can argue that the way Hillary has treated her husband ’ s female victims
is anti-feminist . Some believe that standing idly by while her husband repeatedly took advantage of other women , or possibly doing whatever she could behind the scenes to discredit them , is just as bad , if not worse than some of the things Trump has said .
No matter what your experience with womanhood is , feminism is about gender equality . It is not about placing women above men . Voting for a woman simply because she is a woman is sexist , just as voting for a man simply because he ’ s a man is sexist . We all had to vote for the candidate whom we thought would do the best job . It ’ s time to stop pointing fingers and blaming each other . We need to move forward , hope for the best , and work together toward a brighter future .
