I
have an affinity for thrift store makeovers. I love
finding things at thrift stores and garage sales and
then making them my own. It’s fun to know that
whatever I find has a history and has its own story.
Then, I get to add something to the item and add to
its story.
STEP THREE. After the paint dries, turn on the hot
glue gun. Once it is heated, glue the twine to the
glass holders. Start at the bottom of the holder and
work your way to the top. Each time you wind the
twine around the holder, press the twine to the
previous layer to make sure they are touching.
For this thrifty makeover, I want to show you how
to spruce up glass tea light candle holders. It’s a
quick and easy project that can be adapted to almost any glass container – event wine bottles!

THE PROCESS
STEP ONE. If you’ve picked up your glass candle
holders second hand, make sure they have been
cleaned with soap and water and dry them off.
STEP TWO. Paint the tops of the candle holders
with the glass paint. You can decide how much
you want to cover, but I painted about a quarter.
I painted the outside of the glass holder because I
don’t want the paint to come in contact with any
flames from the candle.

Depending on the size of the container, you will
want to glue the twine down about every two to
three inches to make sure it is secure. Make sure
you use a thin line of glue because you don’t want
it peeking through between the layers of twine.
