Maybe if we stood a minute in a survivor’s shoes, We would understand that this is never something we choose. Maybe if we…..just stopped fuck- ing raping Lifted our knuckles from ground-level scraping. Maybe..if..we...loved, this shit wouldn't happen, We’d recognize the complexity of souls and understand that it’s impossible to fill that gap in. Maybe if we changed our collec- tive views, Athletes and actors, pastors and teachers would be making more news. Maybe if we treated rape as a hu- man problem, not a gender-spe- cific one, We wouldn’t have a planet of souls hiding from the light of the sun. Maybe if we challenged the sta- tus quo, Brought this up more and more and were all in the know. Maybe if we listened to the sor- row leaking from the eyes of the survivor, We wouldn’t think twice of ques- tioning and just be a believer. Maybe if we took responsibility for the way we behave, We wouldn’t need a poem to bring light to shadows pushed away and told to stay. proactive and protective. Maybe if we learned how to heal ourselves from the trauma we faced, We could help others heal and not feel misplaced. Maybe if we didn’t need to talk about rape or assault at all, We could feel that love, in the best of forms, is Universal. Maybe if we dreamed of one day a society that respected autono- my, We’d finally be free. Maybe if we saw that it was well passed time for a different per- spective, We’d all be just slightly more  About the Author Brittany is not only a light worker and shadow sherpa (helping clients through their inner shadows) but she is the CEO and Founder of Clearing the Rain, a company whose mission is to change societal standards around the world, end domestic and sexual violence against women, and empower the fuck out of so many women that she eventually runs herself out of busi- ness.
