juniorspin by Shayne Narro Diamondhead welcomes Operation 36 If your junior golfer is looking for a place to start quick and learn a lot about the game, Operation 36 is a program that Jason Gibson leads for juniors to improve their game continuously and for the long term. The goal of the program is to progress through the program by shooting 36 through 9 holes from the designated distances from each level. Level 1 starts off at 25 yards, so the junior must play the entire 9 from 25 yards and score a 36 to move up to the next level which increases the distance to 50 yards. To help aid the juniors to achieve this goal, there is a 12-badge curriculum at each level that as academy director, Gibson will award on the bag tags to each of the juniors. The badge curriculum provides the necessary knowledge of the game, such as how to properly grip the club, to earn a badge. There is also a developmental app that provides the social aspect of the game between the players in the camp and allows the golfers to communicate on what golf activities they are doing each day whether 12 it be watching golf on TV or cleaning their clubs. The program is based on a semester to semester teaching. The program has different tiers to teach juniors of different ages a different way. There is the spark program to teach juniors from 3-6 to grab an interest in the game. There is an ignition program to progress the learning and develop the game. The fuel program teaches the skills of how to make a difference on the course. The Performance Program breaks down the practice and precise changes that need to be made to become the best golfer possible. Gibson ensures positive results by stating, “The academy is easy to adapt and apply to playing performance on the course,” he says. “I have already seen results in a couple of the juniors that are in the level 2 division.” Gibson seems optimistic on what is to come with the program in the near future.
