Toys for Tots tourney and a $ 400k history by Shayne Narro

On Dec . 10 , Ted Tullos hosted something really special . Tullos joined the players that day in his annual tournament for Toys for Tots , raising money so children in less fortunate situations can have Christmas too .
This year the tournament was held at Quail Hollow Golf Course in McComb , Mississippi . The funds raised through this golf tournament have amassed over $ 400,000 over the 31 years of its existence .
Many children around the U . S . are in situations that don ’ t allow them to have the normal Christmas that many people take for granted . At the conclusion of the tournament , Jim McCollough stood up and made all the players of the tournament realize how fortunate they are .
He had helped Ted set up the tournament for years and also helped with the gift giving process to ensure the toys and supplies made it to the children . The idea behind the gifts is that each child gets one gift they need and one they want . “ The child in one situation said the two gifts that she wanted were a pair of socks and a blanket ,” said McCollough .
It puts into perspective how important raising this money is , whether it is for Christmas or just helping children in need . The players were humbled but also honored to be part of something bigger and greater in McComb .
Ted Tullos played golf at Nichols State University and was a part of the 1970 and 1972 team that played in the NCAA College Golf Championship held in Williamstown ,
Massachusetts and Liberty , Missouri respectively . His dad “ Big Earl ” served on the Louisiana Golf Association for 26 years and two years as president .
Tullos ’ brother served for 12 years on the Louisiana Golf Association , and he also served as president . Tullos has made many PGA friends including Jim Furyk , Bubba Watson and John Daly , a testament to his own service to the game of golf .
