LAKE CHARLES, La.-- Weather was a
challenge for the Mizuno Louisiana USSSA
Junior Golf Tour at last weekend’s Mizuno/
USSSA Battle at the Lake at Gray Plantation
Golf Club. Heavy rains on Friday left the
course soggy for the remainder of the
weekend, forcing tournament administrators
to put in place the lift-clean-and-place rule
for both days of the tournament.
Cameron Mouton battled through the
elements to take home the championship
in the Boys 15-18 division. Mouton, of
Lafayette, shot 168 to win the title. Tanner
Edney, also of Lafayette, finished in second
place with a score of 174.
Carson Ezell fared better on the wet
course. The Houston resident shot a
tournament low 152 to win the boys 12-14
competition. Runner-up Peyton Cantor of
St. Amant shot 161. Tanner McKenzie of
Franklinton shot 165 to take third place.
Karlei Hemmler also performed well
in the soggy conditions. The Groves,
Texas, resident shot 151 to win the girls
15-18 group title. Annie Thomas, of Lake
Charles, finished in a distant second place
with a score of 170. Lauren Alexandra
Anderson, also of Lake Charles, finished in
third place by shooting a 178.
Kale Fontenot of Lafayette continued
his winning ways in the boys 9-11 group,
shooting 68 in the 18-hole event to capture
the tournament title. Jay Mendell, also
of Lafayette, shot 84 to finished in second
place.
Carly Tietje Whittington of Kinder shot
179 to claim the championship in the girls
12-14 group.
Isabella Bradley, of Lake Charles, won
the girls 9-11 event by shooting a 103.
The next event on the Mizuno Louisiana
USSSA Junior Golf Tour is the Mizuno/
USSSA Riverlands Challenge. It’s set for
the weekend of June 11 at the Riverlands
Golf and Country Club in LaPlace. The
