Buckley Wins Tupelo Am in playoff
Tupelo, Mississippi – Tupelo Country
Club was the site for the MGA’s second
sanctioned event of the year. The
tournament got underway Saturday, and
after play ended, two Tupelo natives, Noah
West and Vince Hodges, were tied for the
lead in the Championship Division with a
round one score of -1 (71).
Right behind them was another Tupelo
native, Damon Palmer who finished round
1 with a 72 (E). After Round 1 in the Senior
Division, Scott Martin had sole position
of the lead after he shot a 72 (E). Not far
behind Martin was David Griffin and Barry
Stafford who finished Round 1 with a 74
(+2). In the Super Senior Division, Mike
Thompson finished the day on top of the
leaderboard with a 74 (+2). Scott Thames
was close behind with a 76 (+4).
Sunday’s second round went down to
the wire, but in the end Hayden Buckley
of Tupelo won the Championship Division
in a sudden death playoff. Hayden finished
round two tied for first with Tucker Jenkins.
Both Buckley and Jenkins shot even par
(144) for the tournament. Jenkins shot a 69
(-3) in the second round to earn him a spot
in the playoff. In the Senior Division, David
Griffin of Tupelo edged out defending
Tupelo Amateur champ Barry Stafford to
win the Senior Division. Griffin shot a 148
(+4) to win the tournament by one stroke
over Stafford.
In the Super Senior Division, Mike
Thompson held on to his lead and finished
with a total score of 152 (+8) to take home
the trophy. Following behind Thompson was
Scott Thames who finished the tournament
with a 154 (+10). For complete results from

Rhodes takes Mid Am in Greenville
Scott Rhodes outlasted Eddie Brescher to
win the 2016 Mid Amateur Championship.
Rhodes finished the final round with a 69.
He shared the low round with Josh Lampley.
Rhodes finished the tournament shooting
seven under 209 for the tournament.
Eddie Brescher came in second shooting
six under 210 on the weekend. Noah
Goldman finished third with a weekend
score of five under 211. Rounding out the
top five were Josh Lampley (-3), Ben Snow
(-2) and Neil Trimm (-2).
