Griffin/Boone take MGA 4-ball

Hattiesburg, Mississippi – A crowd
gathered on the 10th tee to witness a
single tee shot before play commenced on
Friday, April 22 at the historic Hattiesburg
Country Club. Mr. Sam Hall would hit
the commemorative shot to remember
the passing of his son, Stan Hall, a long
time amateur golfer and Mississippi
Golf Association member. Sam Hall was
picked up from the driving range where
he prepared to make his son proud. Stan
Hall would have been on the course here
at Hattiesburg Country Club to defend his
title after winning the Senior Four-Ball in
2014 and 2015 with Robert Pannell. The
championship was then underway with 94
teams of Mississippi amateurs.
The Bill Cass Senior Four-Ball Champions
had long awaited this victory. David Griffin
and Alan Boone played consistently
throughout the 54 hole championships
with a bogey free final round to secure the
win. Griffin and Boone, both of North
Mississippi, were overjoyed to accept the
first awarded, Stan Hall Memorial Senior
Four-Ball trophy, in memory Stan Hall’s
passing this past January. Following at the
heals of the champions, Ken Peacock and
Chris Berry, who carded five birdies on
their final nine holes.
The Stan Hall Memorial Four-Ball
Trophy was awarded with Mr. and Mrs.
Sam Hall present to witness the presentation
in memory of their son. Mr. and Mrs. Hall
were also present during the presentation
to the Bill Cass Super Senior Four-Ball
Champions. In Mr. Sam Hall’s honor, the
trophy was named the Sam Hall Super
Senior trophy for his dedication to the game
in Mississippi and his volunteerism spirit that
is witnessed every year by the Mississippi
Golf Association and its members.
Mr. Hall presented this Super Senior
Four-Ball trophy to Don West and Charlie
Pilkinton, both of Columbus, who started
the final round tied with Danny Hooker
and Jud Vance. West and Pilkinton edged
past the competition to win by two at fifteen
under.
Defending champions Jim Henderson
and Steve Brantley almost caught the
champions by returning a seven under
par in the final round, but it was just not
