McNeese State claims Southland Men’s
Golf Championship
MCKINNEY, Texas – McNeese
State rallied after trailing early in
the final round to claim the 2016
Southland Conference Men’s Golf
Championship at the Stonebridge
Ranch Country Club.
The Cowboys had two golfers in
the top 13 to claim their first league
title overall since 1979. McNeese
shot 10-over par 298 in the final
round to win by seven strokes over
the Lions. The Cowboys shot a
three round total of 877 (297, 282,
298). After concluding the first and
second round Monday in a 36-hole
shut-gun format, the Cowboys had
an 11-stroke lead and dropped to
second throughout the final round,
but pulled ahead in the back nine.

McNeese earned the league’s
automatic berth into one of the six
NCAA regionals.
On Tuesday, McNeese State
senior Martin Eriksson carded a
2-under par 70 to give him a threeround total of 7-under par (209) to
help him claim the No.1 individual
honors. Eriksson became the fourth
Cowboy to win the award. Also
placing in the top 13 for McNeese
was freshman Duncan McNeill
who finished six-over par (76, 72,
74) with a tournament score of 222
through three rounds.
Southeastern Louisiana junior
James Anstiss (68, 78, 70) and Sam
Houston State junior Andrew Ertel
(73, 71, 72) tied for second with a
total score of 216. Lamar junior
Man Berglund (73, 71, 72) claimed
fourth finishing 1-over par 217.
Sam Houston State sophomore
Jake McCrory (74, 71, 73) and New
Orleans junior Markus Krieger (74,
73, 71) tied at 2-over par 218.

to claim second place for the Lions
at 20-over par through three round.
