Mississippi, have raised over $400,000 to
benefit the American Cancer Society and
the American Diabetes Association.
“Not only is it convenient to a lot of
people, but this course is like an escape. It’s
not the kind of course that people are used
to playing back where I live in Louisiana,”
said Larry Robinson, facility engineering
consultant at Talos and coordinator of
this tournament. “We get to come to the
hills, see some wildlife. I saw a bunch of
deer yesterday. It’s just getting out back in
nature.”
For the first three years of the event,
Talos held the tournaments at courses in
Columbia, Mississippi, where they also
held their annual company crawfish boil.
The move to Quail Hollow facilitated the
influx of more participants, as it was able to
more easily hold bigger crowds. The course
hosted around 140 players on each of the
two dates for this year’s Moore, Morgan
and Geer tournaments.
“Jeff and his staff are just fantastic; they
treat us like royalty,” said Larry Robinson.
“We’ll never ever move it from here. It’s
always going to be here.”
Quail Hollow benefits by being neighbors
with Percy Quin State Park, as the attendance
at the 1700-acre park brings additional
traffic into the golf course. Trecost said that
he expects this trend to grow when Percy
Quin reopens its Lake Tangipahoa to the
public for fishing beginning Sept. 21.
Alton Robinson said that people staying at
the park start coming in Thursday morning
to book at the course, and that anyone
who does not arrive early will likely find no
vacancies. He also discussed another group
which frequents Quail Hollow, retirees.
Groups of these players meet to golf every
day except Tuesday, when the course is
closed.
“Feedback is great,” said Trecost. “We
are priced affordably for the product
that you’re getting.” Green fees are $31
for weekdays and $37 on weekends, cart
included for both. The course also offers a
$1,200 annual pass membership.
“Love playing golf, man,” said Alton
Robinson, who does not only act as marshal
for the course. “I play every day. I’m a
member too.”
