Michael Howes
Director of Instruction at
Carter Plantation
36
Michael Howes has made a name
for himself in southeast Louisiana as
the director of instruction at Carter
Plantation. The facility has a doubleended driving range, three practice
greens and several practice bunkers.
Michael takes full advantage of these
amenities in his instruction.
He’s a Flightscope certified operator
and is a featured writer for GolfWRX.
Accomplished junior golfer Kristofer
Kerr credits Michael for some of his
own success.
“Coach Michael is always positive,”
Kerr said. You’ll never hear a negative
comment come out of his mouth. And
he always supports me or messages me
after a tournament to check on me.
He’s such a great teacher and also a
great man.”
Michael works with beginning
golfers to those who already have wins
on their resumes. He offers lessons by
appointment as well as online.
Carter Plantation is fortunate to have
him. With a thriving junior program
and fairly new program dedicated to
developing young female golfers, he is
ensuring the future of golf in the Gulf
States Section.
In this video, Michael directs golfers
to focus on impact and get the hands
forward to help avoid the “scoop”
position. Michael demonstrates proper
technique and then provides a drill
golfers may use to improve the impact
position and achieve better ball flight.
