Southern Southpaw
slated for June 5-6
“We have big dreams,” said Chuck
Stinson, founder of the Mississippi Lefties
golf tournament.
This will be the fifth year Stinson has
held the tournament that welcomes lefthanded golfers, but he is ready to broaden
his goals. He hopes for this to be the
inaugural year for the Southern Southpaw
Championships, a tournament that
aims to include left-handed golfers from
Louisiana and Alabama with those from
the Mississippi Lefties group.
A lefty himself, Stinson said that lefthanded golf is something about which
he is very passionate. He wanted to start
a lefties group in Mississippi after seeing
lefties tournaments held elsewhere, and
he has been running such an organization
for seven years. “It’s really cool for me to
be out in the tee box and see those lefthanded golfers,” Stinson said.
The Alabama Left Handed Golf
Association currently hosts an annual state
tournament for lefties. Louisiana, however,
currently has no state championships
for left-handed players. Because of this,
Stinson wants to reach Louisiana lefties
especially so that they are able to participate
in a tournament like this.

Championships will include both open
and senior categories for each of the three
