“The zoo donated 60, and the
aquarium donated 60 as well,”
said King. “Hecker sent them
information because we were trying
to get a discount. Instead of giving
a discount, we got them for free.”
This enabled not only the Aktion
Club but also some Kiwanas
members to bring their families.
“I appreciate how open the
community has been,” said King.
“I appreciate Kellie Brame, Coach
Jake Narro, and [Southeastern’s]
golf team that wasn’t even from the
area. Some were from Scotland,
Germany, France and New
Zealand.”
These student athletes, according
to King, seemed like professional
golfers who donated their time so
the Aktion Club could enjoy a golf
outing. Brame’s husband, Grady,
and their son, Grady Jr. who was
on Southeastern’s golf team at
the time, were both Louisiana
Golf Association State Amateur
tournament champions.
“Smiles from Aktion Club were
priceless,” said King. “To see the
young people be open to people
with special needs was heartfelt
and heartwarming.”
The members were also able to
warm the hearts of other people
with special needs.
“They
helped
build
a
handicapped playground and
volunteer on their days off work,”
said Hecker.
