Team Kenny Hughes Defends Its Title at Oliver
Counce Six Pro Championship
METAIRIE – The defending 6-Pro
champions, led by Shell Landing Golf Club’s
General Manager Kenny Hughes, are taking
home this year’s trophy. One hundred and two
players competed for the title at the Section’s
last tournament of the season hosted by Carter
Plantation Golf Club on Dec. 7.
Hughes’ victorious team consisted of Jerry
Covich, PGA head professional at Hickory Hill
Country Club, David Lee, PGA, Russ Bloom,
PGA general manager at The Oaks Golf Club,
Kyle Ramey of Windance Country Club and
Marshall Saxon, PGA. The team combined for a
steady stream of birdies highlighted by a hole in
one by Ramey on the last to win by one shot (-20)!
Each year, the players line up for fried turkey,
oysters, fried fish and shrimp, and jambalaya,
hosted by Mickey Bradley and Joel Simpson along
with the rest of the Kooking Krewe.
This annual 18-hole event is played in a
scramble format with teams consisting of six
professionals. The tournament is named after the
late Oliver Counce who served as the Gulf States
PGA Section’s first executive director. Counce
passed away in 2004.
The Gulf States Section PGA would like to
thank longtime event sponsors Ben Nelson, Benji
Nelson, Russ Pitts and Seth King of Ben Nelson

Tournament Solutions, for their support and
sponsorship of this great event. In addition, the
Section thanks Cater Plantation Golf Club PGA
Professionals Bill & Andre Caldwell and Jeff
Trecost for hosting this year’s tournament. We
also thank Mickey Bradley & the Kooking Krewe
