resolutions?
what resolutions?
In December/January, we talked about making
realistic goals during the holiday – understanding
that everyone eats ... and eats well ... during the
holiday season. And now, it’s time to get real.
Gym memberships are wonderful, but have you
already quit going? Better yet, did you ever start?
Are you already paying a bill for which you are not
getting any service?
The secret to working out can be summed up in
one word – routine.
We get caught up in a lot of ideas and fads, and
the idea of traditional and basic cannot be stressed
enough. After the fad goes away, everyone can
safely return to the basics for results. While the fad
diets and exercises may produce quick results, they
often don’t last because the fad becomes boring or
disappears due to others’ lack of interest.
But traditional exercising in a routine will always
bring results. And remember, exercise is cumulative,
so if you can do 10 minutes of exercise in the
morning, at midday and then in the evening, it’s just
like working out for 30 minutes. We get caught up in
not having enough time, but really, 10 minutes?

And the time of day for exercise doesn’t concern
us as much as the lack of it. It may be more difficult
to exercise in the morning if you’re not a morning
person, but it also might be more difficult to fall
asleep right after getting the heart pumping. It’s more
about a structured time for getting healthy.
When we develop the habit and routine, we get
addicted to it and want the results that come from
exercise. It aids in sleep, digestion, focus and even
memory. Exercise will improve strength, flexibility
and endurance, all attributes of a great golf game.
It’s February, and it’s time to get real. The storm
of the New Year’s resolutions is over, and we are all
back into the routine of jobs, school and even going
to the grocery store. Answer these questions and
then start your routine:
1. When is the best time of day for you?
2. Can this exercise take place at home to save
time?
3. What results do you want to see?
Talk to your physician before you finalize your
plan and share your goals with loved ones for
support. Your idea may even make them get real too.
