“That’s a God-given talent, when you can hear if something is cooked properly,” Bridget Anderson, BeBe’s mother, said. “Every time she does something, she continues to amaze her family.” However, her culinary talents have helped the community as well. Four years ago, she and her brother held a charity fundraiser during the holidays selling their baked goods, hoping to raise $500, according to Bridget Anderson. The effort raised over $1,500 and also yielded BeBe makes cakes for friends and family members. donations of two rooms’ worth of furniture and other gifts. “Every year, she makes it a point to use that talent to give back to the community,” Bridget Anderson said. This year, BeBe will take part in Cozy Christmas, an event held by The Mission Church in Hammond where she participates in a missionary group. A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to Haiti. Besides the mission group, BeBe is also a member of Beta Club at her school, and she listed helping her family, volunteering in the community and hanging out with friends as her favorite activities besides baking. She currently takes cooking classes, but plans to take her culinary education further BeBe enjoys Party in the Pitts. yet by applying for admission at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. She said that she hopes to attend NOCCA for high school because they have a big culinary program and their own restaurant. As for contributions to family gatherings, according to BeBe, her cousins look forward to what she bakes during the holidays. “Every Thanksgiving, I make a trifle, which is simple, but it’s so good,” BeBe said. “And everyone likes that.” More than simply technique, cooking is also about seeing the smile it puts on people’s faces when they eat, she said.
